wifi extender recommendation

hi...have xfinity voice and data router...use for streaming and internet  in home..weak signal on my back porch ... recommendation for wifi extender/booster or is it easyto move my router up one floor? the tech installed it in basement and connected to a direct tv cable contraption  that we no longer subscribe to...any suggestions appreciated ..thks
