iMac L2TP-VPN Issue

Hello Comcast Community!

My wife has never had an issue connecting her company's VPN until a couple of weeks ago. One of her coworkers started having the same issue around the same time. My wife uses an iMac, and her coworker uses a Dell. Both of them have Xfinity internet services.

When my wife tries to connect to the VPN she receives the message "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator."

I set up port forwarding for the iMac with ports: 1701 TCP, 1723 TCP, and 4500 TCP. The VPN services worked like a charm for one week. My wife's coworker also changed the port settings, and it worked for a week. Now both of them are having the same issue again.

I bought a Netgear R6080 router, and enabled Bridge Mode on the Wireless Gateway. This did not solve the issue though. My wife is falling behind on work, and desparate for help. Any suggesions would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Re: iMac L2TP-VPN Issue

1. DId you consult with your wife's work IT people for help setting up the VPN?

2. Did you configure the R6080 for VPN Passthrough?

Yes and yes. The IT rep for her company stated that everything on their side was set up correctly.

Did you run a Ping or a Traceroute to the VPN server to determine where the blockage might be? If not, ou'll have to use your Mac's Network Utility app, plus assistance from the IT folks at her work.
