I want to change my wifi name and password for a new modem I bought and installed today. Because I own it, Xfinity keeps sending me to device page and to manage account from there. Then when I get to device page and my device is recognized it does not allow me to manage it. I wind up in Xfinity with their message that they cannot help me but to go to the device page(again). Why is this so hard?

It's not hard. You can't manage stuff on their website that is not supplied by them. What are the exact makes and model numbers of your owned equipment ?
