XB6-T humming noise

Hello,
I recently upgraded from a gateway 3 to the XB6-T and have a annoying humming coming from the device, at least loud enough to hear across the room when the fridge compressor isnt running.    I took it in to swap it out today, and got an identical one that also has the humming.    😞

Is this just normal for this device?  (I've never in 25 years had a modem with a fan...   )

Are there any options or should I look into buying my own equipment w/o fans?

I wish I had a closet to put this in, but don't really want to rewire the house.

Definitely wasn't a ground hum issue...   That would be pretty alarming.  Its a fan hum, or case vibration/resonance when the fan spins up.

Maybe it doesn't spin up much for people with one thing connected to it, or most people are living with some background buzzing.   Downgraded to gateway 3 for now, beautiful silence, and a -100mbs hit on the wifi signal.

If anyone from Comcast is reading, this was a total hassle, from the time I got the 'free upgrade' phone call, several returns to troubleshoot-- this equipment model is garbage, I'll be surprised if I don't see a story that it's burned down a city block with the heat it puts out.

Always possible you got two bad ones, my hearing is alright (I think). Have to get within 2 feet (in a quiet room) to notice it.

Mine just has a slight hum to it, I wouldn't say it's excessive. Maybe I'm deaf. 🙂

I guess they all have it, to some degree, then...

It's too bad, after putting in the effort to get silent fans in a PC, to have this muck it up.  I'm guessing most people have enough background noise to mask it.   It wouldn't be too bad if it didn't have a pitch to it.

Forgot to mention there is also the XB6-A, the Arris version. Same design, don't recall if it has a fan too though.

I went and gave this another shot today, after explaining that I'd like to try to get the one made by Arris if possible (and getting confused looks) I got a 3rd XB6-T to try.

Same problem (again maybe a bit less, but still present... and it has seemed to get a bit louder after the first day with the last one).   I sit about 10 feet away, and I can hear it....   and that's just not acceptable with rental equipment.

For reference, this is with one ethernet port used, and 5 devices 'connected' to the 5ghz band, under low/no load.   600mbs package.

Unless a mod or someone can get a xb6-a mailed to me to try (dont know if anyone even monitors here?), I'll either downgrade to the fanless 3.0 gateway, or buy my own eqiupment.

Humming sounds like electrical (possibly grounding) interference from the outlet. Is the XB6 plugged into a power conditioner strip or a UPS? (If not, you might want to consider at least an inexpensive UPS, this has the additional benefit of keeping your XB6 running in case of a power outage).
