Web Browsing is Slow but download is fast

Hello,

I hope everyone is well and staying safe and healthy during this time.

I am experiencing slow Web browsing.  The time it takes for pages to get served up is SLOW.

My DL speeds are GREAT 900 + mb/s, but there seems to be a bottleneck somewhere in the stack.  I have tried different fast DNS Servers as well as Comcast.

I am running the Xfi Modem in Bridge mode and an Edge Router X with hardware offloading enabled.  I'm getting great downloads, it just the time it takes to get things started.

The trace is fine. Have you cleared your browser's cache and cookies and re-booted all your equipment lately ? Also, try a DNS cache flush;

Re: Web Browsing is Slow

It looks like your network connection is good.  I would focus on your browser.  Try loading the browser in safe mode, or trying a different browser to see if it changes anything.  You can also temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus very briefly to see if that is the cause.

I'm assuming you've already tried rebooting your PC, router, and modem?  Sometimes the DNS server or NAT tables in your router will get bogged down and that could cause the symptom you're describing.  Modem is unlikely to be involved as it is just acting as a bridge but it never hurts to reload it once in a while, never know.

Obviously you could also test from another computer, or a phone connected to wifi.  If you've rebooted everything and multiple devices still have the issue, try hardwiring a computer directly to the modem (you will need to reboot the modem after changing devices).  If that eliminates the problem, then your router is the culprit.   Update firmware, then factory reset and reconfigure it may do the trick.  Again when you plug your router back into the modem you will have to reboot the modem again (has to be done every time a new device is connected to it).

I have performed the following

1. Rebooted all Devices

1. ipconfig /flushdns

2. Tried across multiple browsers (Edge, FF, Chrome) with the same results

Still same results.

I will do a Wireshark on my workstation and let you decipher the traffic.

Re: Web Browsing is Slow but download is fast

Hi! Noticed this was a recent thread and I think we are having a similar issue.

I just moved places, I brought my xfinity equipment with me and it booted up without a hitch. The internet works fine on my laptop and my phone, however, my desktop is a different story.

My issues are:

  • Slow browsing speed
  • Momentary disconnections/reconnections (I only notice these if I'm playing a game or remote accessing my work computer)

I've tried different browsers, using an ethernet cable, different DNS, along with flushing the cache. I've updated all my network drivers - still the problem persists. Speed tests reveal normal, if not great, speeds.

There is one thing though - when I use my work-provided VPN, browsing is lightning fast. My internet can still disconnect while on my VPN, but nevertheless the browsing is apparently normal.

I'm know very little about networking, but could this piece of evidence help arrive to a solution?

Re: Web Browsing is Slow but download is fast

I was able to resolve the issue my self. In my environment, I have multiple NIC's and I had to adjust the metrics for which nic the OS uses first. Come to find out after installing a VPN client the OS would always try to use the VPN then the actual physical NIC. This behavior even occured when no VPN was established.
