Upgraded to Gigabit, but not getting it (wired)

I recently requested an upgrade from 100 Mb service to 1 Gb service.

All my cables are at least CAT 6.

Xfinity sent me a new modem.

I am not using Wifi.

I am using a bridge connection (my own Gb capable router).

I think the highest rate I have seen on the Xfinity speed test is ~500 Mb.

Is there any way for Xfinity to test the speed to their new modem to make sure I'm not chasing a ghost?

Thanks!

Have you tried the Ookla speed test at https://www.speedtest.net/ ? I find it more reliable than the Xfinity one.

Also, have you tried testing without your router to see what you get with a directly connected PC?

What do you get with a computer wired directly to the Comcast supplied gateway device when it is not  in bridge mode. There has been a known firmware glitch issue where customers only get 500 to 600 Mbps when the gateway devices are in bridge mode.

Would I be correct in assuming that I have to first turn off bridge mode?  I brought a laptop down to where the modem is and plugged it into the same ethernet port (1 of 2) to which my router had been connected, but the laptop didn't recognize the connection.

Yes. And you have to power cycle it after. FYI. When it is in bridge mode, only port number 1 is active.

Thanks for the reply.  I'll be checking that shortly.

Thanks.  Work has been busy so I haven't had time to take down the network to try it.  I hope... soon.
