Two routers

Hello, Pleasehelpme3! Thank you for posting in our community! We don't recommend to use two routers and we can't really help with the setup. Are you having issues with the WiFi coverage? 

What it sounds like you need is something like an access point.  You can try something like a ubiquiti unifi ap.

How do I "post publicly"? Thanks for any info.

Also - I don't quite understand how your forum works, but I am asking since I found this post in the forum -

Are you talking about posting a pic / pics ?

Not particularly, I'm just trying to learn my way around and get an answer. One reply asked that I "post publicly". What does that mean, and how do I do it? I cannot find any such reference in the help topics.

PS, as to my original request, it doesn't seem impossible, and I'm looking for the answer to longer reference post I included, which had a reply in a private message, rather than a public post. I'm confused.

We offer the second IP in some areas but we can't assist with setting up your personal equipment (except modem). I see that you already sent us a private message and I will reply back in a second. How do I reply to a private message? This is so confusing. I just want Wifi in a detached building and now I'm lost in these forums.  Thanks for any info.

Read my first post.  YOU DON'T NEED A SECOND IP ADDRESS IF ALL YOU WANT IS WIFI IN ANOTHER AREA.  There's no point in purchasing a second IP or racking your mind with trying to figure that out.  ALL YOU NEED IS AN ACCESS POINT  Something like this

FWIW, can't an ethernet switch be used with any single port cable modem for port expansion purposes (with an additional public IP addy of course)  ?

SInce I was involved in that thread- 

Each modem on a consumer account is typically assigned one public IP (IPv4) address.. What that particular user wanted was to have a second one for their modem so that they can run a separate public connection to the internet with a separate IP address from the same modem. 

Since you stated that you wanted a separate WIFI connection on a separate router, presumably with a separate IPv4 address to a detached building as stated here:

1. Go to https://www.xfinity.com/support/rate-card (requires XFINITY account logon) and check if the option for having an additional IPv4 address is available in your area. The option will be listed under "XFINITY Internet" on the last page. If the option is available, go to step 2. If it is not available, then you will not be able to get one. 
2. Upgrade your SB6183 modem to one that has two or more ethernet ports to allow for configuration of a separate IP address into a separate router. (E.G. ARRIS SB8200,  Netgear CM1100, Motorola MB8600. 
3. Post back here and your request will be elevated to a Comcast Specialist for processing. 

Note Comcast allows only one modem or gateway per consumer account.
