Do you rent your modem from Comcast? This used to happen to me all the time and the attacks/drops related to that stopped when I purchased my own modem and router.

FYI. When you change to using a different modem / router / gateway device, you get assigned a different WAN / public IP address due to the device MAC / hardware address change.

The MAC Address is unique to / different for every device, rented or owned. A public IP change may work for a short while, but this type of internet background noise can never be eliminated. Thank God for firewalls !!
