SBG8300 Connection issues! Xfinity line specs not compatible! *SOLVED!*
So after months of fighting random disconnects on my SBG8300 I'd reached the point of having done literally everything. I'd even connected the gateway directly to the cable drop, still problems. After numerous back and forth with Xfinity and Arris, Xfinity says all is well, Arris, says the transmit power on the upstream is too low.
I assumed this was a firmware issue considering the circumstances of the random disconnects, it wasn't.
According to Xfinity 35db is fine. According to Arris, the SBG8300 requires 45-51db! They wouldn't warranty the gateway unless in spec. Now, transmit power is generally up to the gateway, it should only put out as much power as it has to, so I was thinking this was junk. I scheduled an Xfinity tech because I wasn't getting stuck with this lemon. Tech came out, verified all with Xfinity spec, I told him the Arris spec and showed him, insisted that he bring it within spec so I could warranty. He installed a 10 or 11db to bring the signal strength up. And it did, right within spec.
Well, it's been about 2 months now with zero disconnects. I don't know why this is an issue, but it IS. Now you all know.
