Router Cannot Connect to Comcast Modem

The problem: TP-Link router cannot get WAN information from modem. I keep getting the "wan unplugged" message.

Question 1: Is there a way to connect manually?

Question 2: Is there some security or permission on Comcast's end that is preventing router self-setup?

Question 3: Are there any suggestions beyond those attempted below?

Preliminary steps already taken:

>>The modem is in bridge mode.

>>The ethernet cable is attached to the WAN

>>Connection type is dynamic IP

>>I can connect to the internet without the router

>>I can connect to the admin panel for both the modem and the router

>>Using the admin panel for the router, I can edit the wifi setting but there's no internet connection via either the ethernet cable or wifi

Troubleshooting already done:

1. Power-cycling modem and router in appropriate order (over several days).

2. All the troubleshooting options recommended by TP-Link including:

     A. Cloning computer's MAC address

     B. Rebooting with coaxial cable removed first

     C. Clicking the 'get IP using unicast DHCP' checkbox

     D. Configuring DNS server by using primary and secondary of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, respectively

     E. MS Disagnostics tool to reset network

     F. Using a different ethernet cable

    G. Resetting the router to factory settings

     H. Changing LAN IP address for the router

Thank you

Re: Router Cannot Connect to Comcast Modem

You didn’t tell us what model modem you have. From your description it sounds like a gateway since you had it in Bridge mode.
Have you tried plugging the TP Link router into a different LAN port on the gateway?

Re: Router Cannot Connect to Comcast Modem

With the Comcast supplied gateway devices, when they are in bridge mode, only LAN port number 1 is active.

Re: Router Cannot Connect to Comcast Modem

I too am in the same exact boat... have tried everything you listed, and still cannot get the TP Link to talk to Xfinity gateway.  I have model TG1682G/CT and I was able to connect my desktop directly to all 4 ports on the gateway and get internet access, so that "only port 1 is active" statement is invalid, at least for my model.

It's NOT "invalid" as you assert.... It's a FACT !! In bridge mode only port number 1 is supposed to be active. In router mode, all ethernet ports are supposed active. Your's must be malfunctioning, or is in bridge mode, or they don't play nice together....

Dead thread now being closed.....
