Re: Frustrated with slowed internet - paying for gigabit, getting ~150-180 mbps for downloads

I have a 300 mbps service and typicall am getting 70 to 80 mpbs.

I typically was getting greater than 200 mpbs using wifi anywhere in the house December 2019 and January 2020. I know because I have been tracking the speeds on a spreadsheet.

Also I have changed the channel etc on the router and it makes very little difference.

The crux is the volume of use has increased and speeds have slowed down. It won't do any good to report this because you won't get a straight response.

Hope this feedback is useful

WiFi is not a reliable indicator of your network's speed as all sorts of factors can affect it, from cordless phones, USB 3.0 devices, monitors, microwaves, etc.

You need to use an Ethernet connectoin directly to your modem or gateway, and use a dedicated speedtest app (such as the OOKLA Speedtest App) to remove any other factors such as browser overhead.
