Question: Can You Access this Website?

Seeking some assistance. There is a website that I need to access to download firmware, patches and software for my Blackstar Amplifier. I can get to the main Blackstar website, but not this one for downloads.

 

The odd thing is that none of my neighbors or family (in Central Indiana) can access the site (get a timeout notice, server not responding). However my neighbors that have AT&T can access the site. I can also access the site from the public library (don't know what service they use) but that's a real PIA.

So I'm wondering if this is a Comcast/Xfinity issue.  If you could try going to the following website and let me know if you are successful.

Comcast appears to be blocking that site's IP. What does a trace to blackstarinsider.co.uk show? In Windows, open a Command Prompt window, enter

    tracert -4 blackstarinsider.co.uk

and post the output. Mine looks like:

Notice that the trace never leaves Comcast's network. An IP is usually blocked for gross abuse, perhaps by blackstarinsider.co.uk, perhaps by one of the webhosts's other customers sharing that same IP.

If an employee doesn't take care of this for you here, Comcast Security Assurance should be able to help. Give them a call at 1-888-565-4329 (from https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse). Note that this is NOT one of the general customer service numbers. The first-line reps there are sometimes not very helpful. If so, be persistent, and keep at them until you get a satisfactory answer.

You should also contact blackstarinsider.co.uk and report the problem to them as well. It is likely that the block won't be lifted until the behavior that triggered it has stopped.

Tracerouts are below, here is a summary. When I perform the traceroute (with and without the -4 option) it times out at the comcast server.

 

If I perform a traceroute to the main Blackstar site (blackstaramps.com) it times out with the -4 option but completes with the -6 option.

 

Both sites share the same IP address (87.106.136.232) when I do a traceroute to that IP with the -4 it times out. When I use the -6 option and IPv6 address it completes.

When at the public librart, all traceroutes complete.

It's odd that "blackstaramps.com" appears to be blocked with IPv4 but not with IPv6. I don't understand why Comcast would do that. "blackstarinsider.co.uk" doesn't appear to have an IPv6 DNS entry, so it isn't reachable via that protocol.

 

Perhaps CSA can explain the block, if you can manage to get hold of a knowledgeable rep.
