New to Xfinity & problems immediately

We just moved over to XFinity from just cable & internet, and were told we needed to use the ARRIS Group, Inc. TG3482G.  I had a decent modem and router.  I was told that the ARRIS Group, Inc. TG3482G was just the modem, so I just replaced the modem.  I left the router in place.  Is the XFinity modem a router as well?  Will it hurt to have an additional router since we keep having connectivity issues with laptops/phones, etc?  We do also have boosters around the house, so it shouldn't be signal strength

Yes, the Xfinity gateway is also a router, the problems you describe are double NAT with both routers. You can disable the routing in the Xfinity gateway by logging into the admin tool at http://10.0.0.1. Default log in is admin password is password and bridging the device. Then connect your own router to port 1 on the gateway.

 

If your "boosters" are Xfinity pods they won't work in bridge mode and you will have to use the Xfinity router on it's own.

Thanks much for your help!  I have a netgear 15 router.  Would it be best to use that one or the one in the XFinity Gateway?  My boosters are not from XFinity, so since they're already connected to the Netgear, and if I continue to use that, there should be no problem, correct?  If I change to the XFinity Gateway, I'll need to reset them, correct?

Not familiar with the Netgear, but yes bridging the Xfinity gateway sounds the easiest. Then again you can always change the settings in the Xfinity gateway to match your network.

 

If you have time to fiddle try both methods. All part of the fun.
