Netgear CM700 with gigabit internet??

So I just upgraded to gigabit internet and according to the my account info it shows that this modem is compatible with the 1000Mbps internet but customer service is telling me that this modem is NOT since it is DOCSIS 3.0 and Gigabit needs a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. I was getting around 600Mbps down/18up on my previous plan and not im getting 700Mbps down / 6up. Does anyone have any experience with this modem and the gigabit internet plan? Not sure why my upload speed with get cut by 1/3 with the gigabit plan tho.

It’s not compatible with Gig, maybe provide a screenshot of what your account tells you for clarification

Since you are a new poster, it needs to be approved by a Forum Admin. That could take some time. In the interim, you could try hosting it at one of those free third-party pic hosting sites like Imgur or Photobucket and post the link to it here.

Why the upload speed slowed down? I’m not too sure about why.

However, what Customer Service has stated is 100% correct that your current modem is incompatible with the gigabit plan meaning it might not work fully as expected.

When any troubleshooting happens, the red flag will be your current modem that would get blamed because it’s incompatible.

That is the theoretical speed that they rate it is capable of doing via multiple bonded DOCSIS 3.0 channels. But they only will deliver the gigabit speed tier via a DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM channel capable modem.

I have been fighting this issue since upgrading to Gigabit internet . I've never been able to get gigabit speeds. First they tell me my modem isn't compatible even though my account page shows it is compatible. So I buy a new modem. With the new modem I am still not getting the rated speed. So a tech comes out yesterday and checks everything and says that his " speed tester " is showing I am getting 950Mbps so the issue must be with network card on my PC. So fine today I buy a new gigabit network card and guess what. Still the same issue. I am on a modem hooked directly to my PC so no router used. Why are so many people having issues with this gigabit internet?

The reason that their *in house" speed tests show faster speed is because their speed testing servers lie on *their* network's edge, therefore they are not subject to any third party's potential backbone deficiencies / routing deficiencies / distance related latency issues etc;

Ok I notice if I do speedtest on Xfinity.com/speedtest then I am getting 950Mbps download , but other speedtests like Ookla's speedtest.com shows me alot slower download speeds. Why would that be?

So, do I have a valid complaint since their speedtests show I am getting the rated speed? I would think so since their speedtest on their servers isn't really real world results?

They can only guarantee (so to speak) the performance within their own network boundaries. No ISP can guarantee what goes on after the packets leave their network.

 

"Real-world" results are exactly what happens in the real world / open internet. All of the physical effects / deficiencies /  limitations that are present (and are to be expected) are actually experienced. That goes for any internet provider.

I’m getting 208MBps down/6Mbps up, which is what I got before upgrading. They’re blaming the netgear modem.
