Internet drops connection every hours.

Hi Comcast,

 

I am subscribing the 100mbps plan and the internet speed used to be ~ 30~60mpbs. There was  internet outage two weeks ago, and I have noticed that the internet speed became ~100bps since then. However, the internet connection is getting worse than before. There was 2~3 times internet loss which I never had last 5 year. I have switched the cable modem from SB6121 to SB6183 for I thought SB6121 cannot handle stable 100Mbsp speed. But new SB6183 still showed the same issue. This  Saturday, Comcast technicial visited and replaced the connector outside home. This did't work either. Last night, it became worse and as shown in below the log, I had internet loss in every hour until this morning. 

I am using SB6183 cable modem and netgear R6700v2 wifi router.

 

The time when I am posting this now, it looks fine in downstram and uptream channel as shown below. When it starts to become unstable, I can notice that the numbers in corrected and uncorrectables are increasing dramatically, and finally internet is disconnected.  The connection is back to normal in few minutes but it happens again in few hours.

 

Please take a look my issue and advise how to fix this issue.

Even though the signal stats looked o/k at that snapshot in time, the error log entries confirm that something is going on. Perhaps there is noise ingress into the line(s) somewhere.

 

There are other signal stat figures that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.


I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. They can check the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) for any real time degradation and / or error reports, see your node / cable plant and modem health, and see whether or not everything is in the green zone. They can also see a history plot for the modem and poll for those upstream receive signal stats.

FWIW, just an FYI. Most of those error log entries are unhelpful and basically useless because they have the "Time Not Established" date/time stamp so they can't really be used for troubleshooting and are basically invalid. Those happen when a modem is re-booted/powercycled either deliberately by the end user or spontaneously because of connectivity / signal issues with the system, so it spits out a number of random errors caused by the re-boot. Makes the entries look more numerous than they really are. It really likely to be only one or two actual events.

Re: Internet drops connection every hours.

During the weekend, here is my update.

  1. There are still multiple internet drops 5~7 times a day. The frequency is less than before tightening the coax cable, but the issue still exists.
  2. I did factory resets for the cable modem, but it seems that couldn't solve the issue yet.
  3. There is maintenence scheduled in my neighbor tonight, I am not sure if the maintenace is related to my issue.
  4. I found this website (cox forum) regarding to sb6183 modem which is what I am using,  do you think this solution need to be considered? https://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/internet-forum/13163/sb6183-power-upstream-bond-c...
    1. This forum says the upstream power from sb6183 need to be higher than other models to maintain the quality of the connection.  (45dbm ~ 51dbm)
  5. Is it helpful to install a amplifier to resolve in my side as a short term solution?
    1. if it is, could you recommend any?
