Internet connection dropping connection every 70 minutes. Yes another one and it's also xb7.

There's another issue I saw on here while I was trying to figure out what is going on. The descrption is almost identical.

(Previous thread on this issue. Sorry, internet operations are challenging today, I'd meant to include it earlier

https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/internet-drops-every-70-minutes-XB7/td-p/3358154)

I have an xb7 modem, that is in bridge mode because I have Uniquiti mesh wifi equipment behind it.

It took me a while to recognize the timing, but yes approximately every 70 minutes I lose internet connection. The LED flashes orange, then green, then back to white. Reliably and repeatably (two things that I LOVE when performing problem determination). I've been in this industry for over 20 years, so I've already gone through the usual troubleshooting steps before I even contacted support.

I spent a lot of time this morning on a chat (tethered via my mobile phone) with a technician and they're sending a tech out tomorrow to look. I suspect that if they're here during the timeframe when there is no error it will be labelled No Trouble Found.

This seems to have started overnight. The only thing I get in the logs is Harvester messages, but I'm pasting it here so that the TIMING is clear. Remember, this modem is in bridge mode.

Re: Internet connection dropping connection every 70 minutes. Yes another one and it's also xb7.

The upstream power is too high (it's already out of spec on channel 5) and it may be intermittently fluctuating even higher to out of spec levels. That can cause random disconnects, spontaneous re-booting of the modem, speed, packet loss, latency problems, and the un-bonding of channels.

In a self troubleshooting effort to try to obtain better connectivity / more wiggle room, check to see if there are there any excess/unneeded coax cable splitters in the line leading to the modem that can be eliminated/re-configured. Any splitters that remain should be high quality and cable rated for 5-1002 MHz, bi-directional, and no gold colored garbage types like GE, RadioShack, RCA, Philips, Leviton, Magnavox, and Rocketfish from big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart etc. Splitters should be swapped with known to be good / new ones to test

If there aren't any unneeded splitters that can be eliminated and if your coax wiring setup can't be reconfigured so that there is a single two way splitter connected directly off of the drop from the street/pole with one port feeding the modem and the other port feeding the rest of the house/equipment with additional splits as needed, and you've checked all the wiring and fittings for integrity and tightness and refresh them by taking them apart then check for and clean off any corrosion / oxidation on the center wire and put them back together again, then perhaps it's best to book a tech visit to investigate and correct.

Re: Internet connection dropping connection every 70 minutes. Yes another one and it's also xb7.

Thanks. There is a single splitter in this installation, and it was installed by Comcast when they did the cable install. So it sounds like I wait it out until tomorrow when the tech arrives. At least he can address that aspect of it.

So, now the million dollar question. Why would that cause the modem to retrain every 70 minutes?

BTW, I'm not trying to be snarky as I fully agree with what you're saying about physical layer causing all sorts of pain. But, most of the time I've seen that the timing is random. If there's a job that runs say.. 60-65 minutes on the ISP side, I'd buy that too. But otherwise, the reliability of the timing is very odd.

Re: Internet connection dropping connection every 70 minutes. Yes another one and it's also xb7.

Yep. That can be odd that it's that reliable..... We've seen here in past posts that this sometimes is attributed to appliances / devices / motors / machinery either at or near the premises, or somewhere in the neighborhood are turning on and / or are cycling at those regular intervals and they are injecting spurious noise into the lines which of course disrupts the communications / signals.

Good luck with it ! Please post back with how things turn out.

Re: Internet connection dropping connection every 70 minutes. Yes another one and it's also xb7.

So I did some digging, and found something I had forgotten about. The previous tech installed a powered line amplifier. This is now about 2 years old. So I removed it. Now that it's removed, I'm still getting 950Mbps and here are my numbers. They look okish to low on downstream but better upstream to me, but I'm not a cable tech..  and I'm normally working on fibre.

Tech just left, they have to replace the wire from the box to the house. There's significant signal loss between the two.
