Inconsistent Internet Speeds
So i pay for Gigabit 1000 Download an 35 Upload & i've been getting inconsistent speeds from day one before cronavirus! I upgraded to the XB7 paired with my Netgear Nighthawk XR500 Pro Gaming Router! An my Gaming Router is automaticly set an has the infomation to work properly. This inconsistebtcy is really annoying. $140 to have my speeds be so inconsistent im dropping to 200 download with 27 upload rest in peice internet than spike back up to the 700-800 range for download with like 28-32 upload. This Inconistentcy is not from my end. Its from Xfinitys end. I explained my issue to a Tier 2 & Regular Agent and they both aggreed my issue is on comcasts end. Im not even hardwired to the wall. I have one line striaght to the pole outside to my XB7 Modem an my streaming pc & gaming pc is both using Cat 8 hardwired ethernet cables. I never use wireless. Its mind boggling i pay for a speed i can never get consistent. Im a tech nerd & very tech savy & i troubledshoot everything i was taught myself an from computer techs from school. That have degrees in Internet Networking. This inconsisentcy has to come to a end an im tired of it.
This is my average this hour an its dipping every minute. to as low as 200 download than back up to 900 with upload as low as 20 back to 40! As i said this issue has been happening before CRONAVIRUS! I know this picture has to be approved. So if you need to blur my IP! Go for it!

I've noticed the same issue with the XB7. The below article might explain it:
https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/why-comcast%E2%80%99s-new-wi-fi-6-router-fails-i-spent-three-days-testing-it-121796. Hopefully, as the article suggests, it's a firmware issue that will be resolved.
I can't, however, recommend another cable modem with voice. I tried the Arris TM25 and the Netgear CM1150v modems. They would work for a time, slow down, lose connection, work for a time, slow down, then lose connection. Those modems are both supposed to work with Xfinity's gigabit tier, and they probably do in most locations, not mine. I had techs come and go 4 or 5 times with giving me stable internet until they installed the XB7. It may be inconsistent, but it stays connected.
Unless you were able to get another cable modem to work for you, keep fighting to get full gigabit speed. If you have fixed the problem, or fix it in the future, let me know. I fight for full speed after I have recovered from my eventually successful efforts to finally get stable internet.

If you have Windows 10, trying safe mode in Windows 10 with Networking. If that gives you full gigabit speeds, download TCP Optimizer, a free program. Run it as an administrator, save you current settings, optimize, and reboot. I ended up with consistent full gigabit speed internet. You might too.
