From Sunday 9/6/2020 around 5pm to Monday 9/7/2020 9am the Comcast network both tv,internet and phone in Campbell CA was down. After service was restored my ASUS router was unable to get a DHCP IP address.ARRIS SURFboard MODEL SVG2482AC Router is a Asus RT-AC68U I have called comcast technical support but the auto system just resets the modem, from reading the forum on this problem I belive a provisiong will resolve the issue.I hope ComcastChe is still around.

The error was coming from the router, this is my home netwok setup: arris gateway in bridge mode to asus router + 5 port switch to 4 computers 1 printer, playstation and a tv. After the comcast network went down from 9/6/2020 around 5pm to monday 9/7/2020 9am when service was restored the router would not give me a ip address. I tried resetting the arris and the router but no joy, I then pluged the computer that sits next to the arris into the #1 ethernet port and was able to get back on the internet, from there I ran ipconfig/release-ipconfig/renew shut down everything moved the arris back to the router started it up first then the router then one of my computers and the lan was back and no grumbling from the router.

For what its worth After looking at Google for any hints on my problem I saw this note about how to release and renew your ip address.
With one computer plugged into a ethernet port on the ARRIS SURFboard SVG2482AC and the Asus RT-AC68U router off, on windows 10 open the command prompt. Enter ipconfig /release and press Enter, then Enter ipconfig /renew and press Enter to get a new address. I then shut both the ARRIS SURFboard SVG2482AC and the computer down connected the ARRIS back to the Asus router turned on the ARRIS let it come on line then powered up the Asus router, good news the lan is back.

Is the error coming from the router or Windows? The IPCONFIG method just changes what IP address the computer gets from the router.

An FYI. If you are hanging a stand-alone / separate router off of a combo gateway device, and the gateway is not in *bridge mode*, you are cascading 2 routing devices which results in an undesirable "double NAT" condition on your home network.
Google "double NAT" for info about it's potential pitfalls.
