Comcast Speed Issue - Help needed!
Hello,
I have recently upgraded my plan to 200Mbps. But I can get the max speed only upto 93Mbs. I have tried with multiple cable modem ( TPLink and Arris SB6190 ) both can support more than 200Mbs. I checked the speed my directly connecting the modem to my laptop. I had multipe calls with Comcast agents. Also one agent visited my home and told that issue is with modem. He showed me that he can get 200Mbps with comcast modems. I don't want to pay 15$ per month and rent the comcast modem.
But the TPLink modem was able to achieve 200Mbps earlier in my previous house ( different location ). Also it is weird that both TPlink and Arris shows the same issue. Both these modems are approved my Comcast. I am thinking of buying a new DOCSIS 3.1 modem now.
Some questions.
1. Do you think issue will get resolved with DOCSIS 3.1 modem. I don't have much hope to be frank.
2. Is it possible that Comcast is intentionally reducing the speed for user owned modem?
3. Any other solutions to this problem?

Yeah. I have tried with mutiple devices which supports 1Gps. The same laptop can support well over 200Mbs in my office network ( while I was in office ) and also in my previous house. I have also tried running speed test directly inside my pfense router which can support 1Gps. All gives a max speed of around. 90Mbps in my home environment.
The same laptop was able to achieve 200Mbps with comcast modem ( when the agent was in home, we tested this ).

Hello,
Today I bought a new Netgear CM500 DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I see the same issue. This is the third modem which I have tried till now. Max speed is only around 92Mbps. Appreciate any help towards this.
Note: This is not a laptop/router issue. I have already confirmed that through various experiments.

Hey,
I was having very similar problems (moved from 70mbps to 300mbps package). I moved to this new package after activating a new Arris SB8200. While activating the new modem online, I was connected directly to one pc. After that, I was connected to the Netgear R8500 for all my testing and I was consistently getting speeds of 80mbps with the new 300mbps package, just like I was with the older Arris modem and the old package. After many resets and power offs and calls with support, they indicated everything was fine and suggested sending technician to check line.
For a goof, I connected again directly from modem to one PC and started seeing above 300mbps. It turns out the Netgear Dynamic QoS was setup up knowing that my top speed was 80 and it was limiting all devices to that. Once I ran speedtest within the Netgear software, all was fine and all attached devices are now getting 300mpbs.
I know you said you connected directly to laptop, but how recent? Shot in the dark, just like me finding this silly Netgear QoS issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. Every time I changed the modem, I check the speed by directly connecting the laptop to cable modem. I tried that even today after buying the new cable modem. I want to avoid router/wifi issues.
I do have QoS enabled in my pfsense router earlier , but that is not the culprit here. I have disabled QoS completely now.
I ran out of ideas. Thinking of trying with a DOCSIS 3.1 modem now.
