I recently signed up for the Internet Essentials. Received my gateway with a envelope of instructions. I downloaded the XFi app to activate but it will not activate. The app suggests sending a technician to help. Do you have to have an active cable line in order for it to work? I only ordered it because I read somewhere online that you did not need an active cable or phone line. Does anyone know if that's true?

Wow. Thanks for telling me. I'm so aggravated right now because I read somewhere that I didn't need an active phone or cable line. Very misleading info. Well, I will be sending it back then. Living on fixed income and the $9.95 was the perfect price.
When I filled out the application to verify my eligibility the issue wasn't written anywhere. Very disappointed!
