Bridging my Xfinity Wifi Router with a Linksys AC2600 - has anyone done it?

All,

I'd like to add a more robust wifi router to my existing Xfinity configuration via "bridging" and hoping someone out there has done this before.  I have a Linksys AC2600 gigabit router, it's connected, but fails to establish an internet connection.  I "have not" placed the Xfinity C7100V in "bridge" mode as yet.., but I'm assuming I need to do that.  The AC2600 is not on the approved list so do you think it will work regardless of turning on bridging?  Also, what's the downside of doing this?

Kind regards,

The "approved list" only refers to modems or gateways (modem + router) that connect your network to the Comcast system. A third party router is just that - a router.  You'll still need an approved modem to connect.

Depending on what you're trying to do - you can either configure your Linksys  as a Wireless Access Point, so as to provide an extra wireless connection point within your network (I've done this with an older router to provide WiFi signal to a room that didn't have a solid connection) , or set your Xfinity Gateway to Bridge Mode and let your Linksys do all the network management as a full on router.

Thanks so much for the great response.  Configuring the Xfinity wifi router to "bridge" seems to be the right direction.  So, the Linksys will become the "new" wifi router making the "current" Xfinity C7100V router just a "pass through," correct?  In other words, the Linksys will be bridged to the C7100V, which will simply act as a "pass through, " am I thinking about that correctly.

So, linksys---------->Xfinity (in bridge mode)---------->Inet (Comcast recognizes the configuration and allows access to internet).

Be careful, if they are physically close, wifi can interfere with each other.   I ran into this.   If they were closer than 20', speed significantly degraded regardless whatever channel was selected and tx/rx errors increased.
