Arris SB6190 randomly restars

Im having an issue where my modem randomly restarts.  Ill lose connection to all my devices on the network (wifi and ethernet)  This is the second modem that I have replaced.  I called Comcast and they sent a refresh signal but the issue remains.  I also replaced my netgear router R7000 with a Fortinet AP as well as a Fortigate firewall.  Issue still remains.  This is the log from the modem.  I read reports that that perticular modem has issues.  I have included the log below.

Thanks Steve

Please also post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.

Is this with a WiFi connection ?

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

Its both with wifi and ethernet.  My Apple TV is wifi and it will state your internet connection is under performing and when i run a speed test i get 350MB down.  You can see the modem with all its lights off and just the one flashing and it will go through its sequence and eventually reconnct to the internet.  My PC that is connected to ethernet will lose connection as well.

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

O/k the upstream power is on the high side and it may be intermittently fluctuating even higher to out of spec levels. That can cause random disconnects, spontaneous re-booting of the modem, speed, packet loss, and latency problems.

In a self troubleshooting effort to try to obtain better connectivity / more wiggle room, check to see if there are there any excess/unneeded coax cable splitters in the line leading to the modem that can be eliminated/re-configured. Any splitters that remain should be high quality and cable rated for 5-1002 MHz, bi-directional, and no gold colored garbage types like GE, RadioShack, RCA, Philips, Leviton, Magnavox, and Rocketfish from big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart etc. Splitters should be swapped with known to be good / new ones to test

If there aren't any unneeded splitters that can be eliminated and if your coax wiring setup can't be reconfigured so that there is a single two way splitter connected directly off of the drop from the street/pole with one port feeding the modem and the other port feeding the rest of the house/equipment with additional splits as needed, and you've checked all the wiring and fittings for integrity and tightness and refresh them by taking them apart then check for and clean off any corrosion / oxidation on the center wire and put them back together again, then perhaps it's best to book a tech visit to investigate and correct.

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

I know there is one splitter from the main feed that comes in the house.  I dont know what brand it is but i know its not gold plated.  Can you recommend a splitter that is good quality.  I dont mind spending the cash as long as i know it will be high quality.  Thank you for your help.

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

Bear in mind that changing that splitter may not be the answer to the problem. There may be other splitters hidden behind walls / ceilings / attics.

Here are some quality brand splitters that Comcast actually uses in different market areas;

Antronix CMC2002H 2-Way Splitter: http://www.amazon.com/Antronix-CMC2002H-2-Way-Splitter/dp/B001E4OH1E

Regal 2 WAY 1 GHZ Splitter: http://www.amazon.com/DIG702867-Regal-WAY-GHZ-SPLITTER/dp/B0018BQMUM/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF...

Extreme Broadband BDS102H 2-Way Digital Coax Splitter: http://www.amazon.com/EXTREME-DIGITAL-PERFORMANCE-CABLE-SPLITTER/dp/B007YV0UQW

Holland 2-way horizontal splitter 5-1000 MHz with ground.http://www.3starinc.com/holland_2-way_horizontal_splitter_5-1000_mhz-w-ground.html

Sv-2g 2-way Splitter 5-1000mhz: http://www.amazon.com/Sv-2g-2-way-Splitter-5-1000mhz-Sv2g/dp/B003TH36CK

Good luck !

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

Great.  I ordered a few and when they arrive I will swap it out.  I will let you know.  One other thing that I didnt mention and i dont know if this may affect anything but i have a magicjack connected to the network.  I disconnected it thinking it was causing the reboots.  So far the reboots have stoppped since i have unplugged it but today when i was logged into my home pc from work via rpd my connection died and had to reconnect so i assume its not magicjack.  It was fine for a week and today it crapped out.

Here is the info after replacing the splitter.  I sent a refresh signal to the modem after replacing the splitter as well.  I replaced the splitter around 6pm on the 20th

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

So it's actually a dB higher / worse. Something else is going on. It may be best to get a tech out to investigate this one !

Bear in mind that if the premises facing techs can not find or fix a problem at your home, it is they who are responsible for escalating it to their line / network / maintenance dept. techs. The problem may lie beyond your home in the local neighborhood infrastructure somewhere but it is their S.O.P. to start at the home.

Good luck with it !

Re: Arris SB6190 randomly restars

Thanks for your help!  I did notice that when surfing the net the pages loaded faster and youtube was quicker to load the video on my pc as well as apple tv.  We'll see if it reboots.  I also connected the magicjack backup.  Fun stuff.  🐵
