Approved Modems

Hello,

I am hoping forum members or a representative from Comcast can assist with some confusion related to approved 3rd party modems that can used for internet/phone.  It appears there has been a recent change (in the last few monts) and its not clear why and isn't documented.  Let me start by saying I've already checked MyDeviceInfo.Xfinity.com.  That site showed the Netgear CM1150V as approved for 1GB internet and voice service.  It's also noted as "Xfinity Approved" when looking at the listing on Amazon or other retailers.  However, if you look at My Device Info now that model is NOT listed as approved.  The only approved voice and 1GB modem is the Netgear CM2050V, is that accurate?

Is there any reason why the C1150V is no longer approved even though it most definitely was there in the last 2-3 months?   What happens to subscribers who already have this device, are they required to replace it since its not on the Approved Device list?   If the Netgear CM2050V is the only 3rd party option for voice/1gb data this leaves the customer with only ONE option.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I see the 1150V presently listed for gigabit and phone on. Maybe it’s a market thing if you can’t see it, maybe others will chime in https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#unauth

The only difference I see is 1150 is up to 1 Gig and 2050 is up to 1.2 Gig

Thanks for your reply CCAndrew.  I looked further at your link and see what you referrenced.  It must have been an oversight on my part as its necessary to select Show More Devices.  Not doing that shows only the 2050 (newest model) and a few others.  However, scrolling further after selecting see more devices there are more choices.   One additional observation that still leaves this a bit confusing.  If you use the left margin to narrow the selection and choose up to 1.2GB  and voice/telephone enabled only the 2050 appears as approved.  Interesting and not really sure why.

As @CCAndrew already explained, Comcast rates the CM1150V for speeds "Up to 1 Gbps", and the CM2050V for "Up to 1.2 Gbps". The Device Info pages don't list the CM1150V when you select 1.2 Gbps because it isn't rated for that speed.
