I spent hours on this before realizing that even though I use a PC, you MUST have Bonjour turned ON on the Canon printer. Bonjour is an Apple protocol for device discovery on a network. If you don't have it on, all the network connections look good on both the PC and printer side, you can PING the printer from the PC, but the PC will simply NOT recognize the printer. The hint that it won't work is if, when you try and install a new printer, nothing shows up and you have to proceed with "the device I want isn't on the list". A manual install LOOKS like it worked, but it didn't. Even worse, I ended up with multiple printer installs that caused additional problems. With Bonjour ON at the printer, the wireless printer showed up beautifully as a device when I attempted to add a printer and everything went fine afterwards.
