Xfi Pods ethernet backhaul

I've seen this asked ever since the pods came out but no one will give an answer. The closest thing I've seen to an answer was "it's on the roadmap", that's great but when will ethernet backhaul actually be implemented? I'm trying to switch from my Google WiFi which I have ethernet backhaul because the points are too far apart for good signal, can't switch until this is implemented, what's the hold up?

What can I do if all my Pods are online, but I'm still having WiFi issues?
If you're getting WiFi coverage in areas of your home where there was once no or limited connectivity and none of the Pods are showing as offline, then the Pods are doing their job. If you're experiencing connectivity issues that are limiting your ability to perform specific functions (i.e., streaming video), you may benefit from the following:

  • Connecting your device via Ethernet to a Pod or the Gateway.
  • Moving a Pod(s) closer to the Gateway or another Pod.
  • Purchasing additional Pods.
  • Disconnecting your device from your in-home WiFi network and reconnecting.

Thanks for the reply but that’s a lot of words to not answer my question. IS ETHERNET BACKHAUL AVAILABLE IF NOT WILL IT BE SOON? That’s my question, nothing else.

No, and the Pods are not designed for it. The ethernet port on the pods are to connect an non-wireless, ethernet client device to it.

If you're wishing to run a Wireless Access Point via an ethernet backhaul to the gateway, you'll have to use a third party device.

Re: Xfi Pods ethernet backhaul

Just curious why an xfinity employee would say “it’s on the roadmap” if they aren’t designed for it...? It’s got the ethernet port, sounds like it’s just a feature/firmware upgrade away.

It's possible a hardware redesign is coming, but to be honest, I don't know. I'm not an employee and I have no particular insight into the workings of Comcast's engineering team.

I know you have heard this before, but yes, it is on a roadmap but we haven't announced a time for this feature to be available for the xFi pods.

Re: Xfi Pods ethernet backhaul

If it’s over a year away, it’s not on the roadmap.

There was a Comcast employee, @ComcastRachelH, who posed in October *2018* that Ethernet backhaul for xFi Pods was on the roadmap.

It doesn’t instill consumer confidence to say “we’re going to do this, but it may take 5 years.”

Please tell us if it’s going to ship in the next quarter or don’t say anything at all.

Do you have an update?  It is almost April of 2020.  When will the pods be able to connect to xfi modem through ethernet for rooms in a home not extending speed through mesh?

Re: Xfi Pods ethernet backhaul

With everyone being stuck at home, being able to use ethernet backhaul would be most helpful.  Plume supports ethernet backhaul, I can't understand why it has taken years for Comcast to enable this feature on the same Plume hardware.  Comcast providing an ETA of when the feature might be available or even stating it won't be supported at all would be most helpful, and the right thing to do.

I agree! Plume supports it now. Ethernet backhaul would be very useful in my home and it is very disappointing that it is still not supported.

Re: Xfi Pods ethernet backhaul

enough of this crazieness with xfinity....put your xfinity gateway in bridge mode and buy a real wifi mesh (ex. Google Wifi you already have). Comcast should stick to providing the connectivity and stay out of the home networking hardware business.

Since someone closed my thread before it was resolved I’ll ask it again. Maybe if enough people post their displeasure with Xfinity not implementing this feature they will get it off the “roadmap” and out to customers.
