Purchased Xfi Pods and don’t see it work

We purchased the XFi pods today. Trying to place the pods in the best spots available. My gateway is down stairs and hoping to extend better WiFi to upstairs. No outlets on the stairs/hallway up. I tested with speed tests before using pods and once they were plugged in. I saw absolutely no difference in download speed. I am trying to have a better gaming experience on a pc that’s located upstairs. Why do the pods not make any difference? Any suggestions are very welcomed.
