Lost abillity to change Wifi settings . Channel and bands and wifi from admin tool or Xfi App

i get this message on the admin page for my gateway.

Wi-Fi Mode, Security Mode, Channel Selection, Channel Mode, and Channel Bandwidth are being managed automatically to help optimize your home Wi-Fi network and improve Wi-Fi coverage. To edit your Wi-Fi Network Name & Network password, please download the Xfinity xFi app.

This is unacceptable i did not ask for my settings to be automatically managed how can you take away basic settings like this i spent forever last night trying to get this fixed and no still not fixed the rep i chatted with submitted a ticket and i have still not received a call back. Iv seen other on here saying its something because of mesh WIFI i do not have or ever want the xfi pods so please help me get my settings back.

Why am I not able to change my wifi settings?  I want to change the channel on 2.4ghz network.  I've lost the ability to make changes.

Did you ever get a solution to this? I'm in the same boat,  don't have/never had xfi pods and over 6 hours on the phone with the advanced repair and gig departments has given me nothing. My 5ghz network is locked to 80mhz channel bandwidth and limiting my wifi speeds to way under 200 mbit.

No, never got a response. I've called, and after 30+ minutes arguing with a script reader, I'm told someone will call, with never a call.

Hi, patdoll,

It has been almost 5 months since your last post about this topic.  I spent quite a bit of time today with online chat support, and then an hour with Advanced Team phone support on this issue, only to end up at the same place.

I was disappointed that the Advanced Team tech support did not seem to know about this issue, but they stayed on the phone with me patiently as I performed various troubleshooting steps and attempted to change the configuration, to no avail.  Their conclusion was the same as yours, that we are just stuck with the "automatic management...to optimize", even though it fails to do exactly that.

I am also experiencing WiFi interference, that being between the Xfinity modem's WiFi and my Google WiFi mesh network.  It is still possible to turn the "private" WiFi network completely off (disabled), but when you "turn off" the "public" WiFi, it doesn't really turn off.  It just stops broadcasting its "xfinitywifi" SSID, but its WiFi signal is still active and can be connected to by explicitly using its name when connecting.  And the "public" and "private" WiFi, when both enabled, share the same WiFi channels.

Comcast tech support has previously told me that the ONLY way to really turn off the Xfinity modem's WiFi is to put it in "bridge mode" in the configuration.  The downside is that you will need a router between the modem and your devices.  Unless they turn off that "automatic management" feature or make it optional, this is likely the solution I will end up doing.

By the way, I have written a letter to Tom Karinshak, Executive VP and Chief Customer Experience Officer regarding the "automatic management" feature and its unwelcome enforcement upon us.  I asked him to consider allowing customers to opt-out of the feature.  I would encourage any other Comcast customers who are unhappy with this situation to do likewise (please be polite).  Perhaps Xfinity/Comcast might change this so that we may enjoy our WiFi networks and devices without them interfering with each other.
