Advanced Security blocks Plex and FTP

When I have Advanced Security on, it blocks access to my Plex server and I cannot use my FTP client (Filezilla, not a server, just the client). I have port fowarding set-up fine because it worked before Advanced Security and it works fine with Advanced Security off.

I've looked on this forum and it seems to be an unresolved issue. Is there some way to get Advanced Security to work around this or is it just something to cancel?

Is there any update on this?  There's no way i'm going to keep clicking "ALLOW CONNECTION" every time i remotely request access.

Re: xFi Advanced Security blocks FTP and website

The new xFi Advanced Security was blocking access to my websites. Using either cPanel or an FTP client would trigger the blockage linked to the hosting company's IP address, including public web access through the Xfinity gateway.

Turning off xFi at Xfinity xFi - Network - Security worked.

I would like to know if I can turn xFi Advanced Security back on, and set to allow access to one ip4 IP address (i.e. the hosting company)?

Are you saying it is blocking access to a server in your home or are you saying it is blocking your hosting company's IP?

Either way you can turn it back on. However you can not permanently allow the access. You can still go to allow access when you open the notification for it, but it will only be temporary. Or if it redirects you to another webpage saying they blocked something you can hit allow from there but again, temporarily.

To all with the Plex and FTP issue. My only recommendation at this time is if something is going to be hosted on your network like that, then it may be best to turn off xFi Advanced Security at this time. Again, allow can keep being clicked, but if you're accessing over cellular, that IP could change in an instant requiring you to re allow it and the allow is only temporary.

Re: xFi Advanced Security blocks FTP and website

Thanks for the fast response.

I notice the tracert ends on the first hop at the router http://10.0.0.1/

The next hop times out.

Can the router get set to make an exception for one ip4 address?

.

The web server is at the hosting company. I FTP files from my PC to their server.

When I turn xFi Advanced Security back on (and wait the 10 minutes), then try to FTP to the website server, the FTP times out, and using a browser, the website gives me this  error...

Hmmm...can’t reach this page
Try this
Make sure you’ve got the right web address...

On the xfinity xFi admin page I get this warning....

Multiple Threats Need Attention
There were attempts made to access DESKTOP-12345 from a known malicious source. We've blocked 8 of these threats this week, but only 4 require action

With the threat showing as...
Catogorized as an "IP Reputation"

Turning on and off Advanced Security is the work around that works.

Thanks

Sorry. There isn’t a way to totally exempt a certain IP in particular. As I said earlier you could hit allow, but it only temporarily does. I forget the how long it allows it for off the top of my head.

Re: xFi Advanced Security blocks FTP and website

I spent an entire day trying to figure out why I could no longer FTP or Remote desktop to my client's sites. Nobody I called at Comcast knew anything about xFi Advanced Security . They kept telling me I did not have it. Comcast apparently turned it on without my knowing it, thus many lost hours of work.

It is buggy as heck and made my internet useless.

I turned it on when I go to bed and turn it off when I wake up.

I was on the phone with comcast from 11am till 5pm.

Comcast, do a better job.

Re: xFi Advanced Security blocks FTP and website

I don't understand holw exactly you fix this.  This is been a massive problem and I have spent hours on it.  Comcast support has not had any concept of what I was talking about when I said FTP didn't work.  I even talked to a supervisor.

From
https://internet.xfinity.com/
EXACTLY how do you fix this problem?

Comcast support is absolutely useless.

GO into https://internet.xfinity.com/ click on More-->My Services. You will see xFI Advaned Security. Just disable it. You can turn it back on anytime you want.

I work from home and remote desktop and ftp are what I do all day long. There is no way you can work with this thing turned on.

Re: xFi Advanced Security blocks FTP and website

OK!  It worked!!!  I can't tell you how upsetting this is.  So everyone who went to CPANEL was blocked from the VERY DOMAINS THAT THERE WERE RESPONSIBLE TO MAINTAIN!  And then, didn't even bother to educate their own support team, even supervisors.

I know I'm shouting, but this is just shocking.  This may be the end of my relationship with Comcast.
