I have been experimenting with the new Edge browser (Chromium based), and have an interesting problem: some stations simply won't stream, and generate a constantly repeating "Attempting to Resume..." message ("We've run into a problem while streaming...blah bhal"), and never get going. Others work great. For instance, Starz and HBO fail, while local stations (here in Denver) seem to work fine. CNN fails but CNBC works great. Sometimes I get an "Enable Flash" message with a stream sometimes not, sometimes it just starts streaming great. It doesn't seem to matter if I enabled Flash or not.
While monitoring the system Performance via Task Manager, the CPU demands of the new Edge browswer, for stations that work, is far, FAR lower than other browsers like Chrome, which makes a big difference on a low-end PC. Memory consumption seems much lower, too. So the new Edge browser seems very promising to me, except for this "station-by-station exception" problem.
What's going on? Why are the different stations so wildly different? Is there any hope they might all be made to work properly in the new Edge?
Thanks!
One more interesting note to add: If I record one of the channels that fails, then immediately go to watch the recording, that channel works fine. I set an episode recording for CNN for the current show that was running, then immediately went to watch recordings and watched it, which meant I was watching maybe 5 or so seconds behind the live stream, that worked fine. Obviously there is some change in the encoding for a recording vs. live, and different encoding methods for some stations vs. others. What's up with that?
Yep, having the same problem with the new Edge, many channels simply won't play currently, while all play perfectly fine in Chrome (and Brave).
I'm getting errors like:
"This browser has paused playback."
(Error TVAPP-00282)
It used to say "attempting to resume" like 3 times in a row before declaring to enable Flash, but it doesn't do that anymore. (I'm NOT enabling Flash even if that's the answer.)
So, this needs to be fixed as the new Edge will surely be exploding in usage very soon.
Still an issue on new Edge version 80.

Wifi or ethernet? I'm on ethernet with HP Envy Win10 and all my recordings are playing.
Ethernet. Recordings play fine. Many live tv channels do not (however the ones that have GO equivilents play fine).

I just tried mine on my ethernet Win10 desktop PC and I couldn't find any issues.
Many? Which ones so I can try them.
Some of the several channels that cause "This browser has paused playback. (Error TVAPP-00282)" or repeated "Attempting to resume" screens in the new Edge for me:
Olympic Channel (822)
Bravo (832)
Lifetime (835)
Golf Channel (849)
AMC (889)
Starz Encore (891)
Tennis Channel (862)
All work fine in Google Chrome, as well as in Brave. (With Flash disabled, of course.)

Do you have any issues with the lower channels or are they not in your package? I don't have any of those chanels.
Well I didn't try every single channel, but many of the lower channels do work, such as the locals (ABC, Fox, etc.) and several others (like below 814); but there are also lower ones that don't work, such as FS2 (740). Some of the higher ones do work, like ESPN (850) and ESPN2 (851), but most of the other major networks (A&E, Bravo, E!, etc.) don't (but the TvGo versions of those do work).
I guess I'll have to use Chrome or Brave just for the Stream site for now, to have full channel support. Hopefully it gets resolved soon though.
It seems ever since there was an update, in the last couple of weeks, I am having issues streaming TVGo using Edge or Firefox. I have not had any real problems with streaming until now. The show starts to play, doesn't even get out one sentence and then I get message "Attempting to Resume...We've run into a problem while streaming. Airdate:2/19. Please wait while we try again". I reload and the same process again. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm having similar issues as-well. I may check on this thread in the future. (that's interesting for now, though)
yep, similar issues as those stated by others above... you guys should keep updating this thread ... have a good day.
ok
several LIVE CHANNELS selected I got 'attempting to resume.... attempting to resume'
when I selected the TV GO selections for those same channels, THEY WERE OK.
one of the posts above described that as-well.
I guess it's usable...
have a good day
I think the Edge Chromiun browser was upgraded..
I'm able to stream Live channels now (regular LIVE channels )
I'm still looking at other things though...
have a good day
A new version was released on roughly Feb 21. This link appears to keep track of all the release versions:
https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/security-guidance/advisory/ADV200002
Some ofthe LIVE channels, though, still want to have Adobe FlashPlayer enabled.
I don't want to use that.
It's going away down-the-road anyway..
I'm done.
I'll "wait for the movie..."
Adios
Adobe Flashplayer is going away down-the-road y'all <<<<<----
I thought I'd reset and re-install Edge Chromium browser to test some things.
I am able to stream some of the LIVE channels I couldn't before (but some want to use Adobe Flashplayer as 'enabled'.
So, to test, I remporarily enabled Adobe Flash and they worked ok...
Booo!!!
Adios
make that 'temporarily'
............
It's still ok
After I did a reset and a re-install
The different test options that I did.
No surprises .... yet ...
Several (more than 3) LIVE channels - all "owned" by very famous companies ( VERY famous AND LARGE ) want to have Flash enabled and running for access..... come on y'all
and
Flash player ..... requested for many LIVE channel(s) viewing --- for access to their viewing ----
come on y'all
Still a problem with new Edge stable 80.0.361.62.
Guess comcast will sort it out by December.
come on y'all. Why wait? financial reasons possibly?
"
This Video cannot be played...
We've run into a problem streaming whatever
Diagnostics
It is a Flash LIVE CHANNEL at-this-point
"Welcome to the Jungle" Guns and Roses
Guns N' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" sorry gentlemen
last post on this thread
To LIVE view some channels I would normally Live View,
I had to enable FLASH and have it using its appropriate file
I did that as a test.
Adobe FLASH is going away and , (never mind)
I'll wait for future "developments" regarding this browser and its "extensions".
have a good day

IT FINALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if it's a coincidence with new Edge 80.0.361.66 updated today, but I was just about to install another browser (again) when I thought let me check the Stream site one more time.
The previous problem channels I've tried so far now work, and actually faster appearing at highest quality too (that is, before it would take like 15-30 seconds for channel streams to "up" to full quality.)
Cheers!

have you considered actually using the actual chrome browser?
@Rustyben wrote:have you considered actually using the actual chrome browser?
Well, yes, I have. But I really didn't want to return to Chrome, because I really like the new Edge. Going back to Chrome was indeed going to be my last-ditch choice, because everything just works in it. But, I would like to have just one browser, and since the new Edge is actually a Chrome-killer that has to be installed on the system anyway, I'd like to use only that. And now that's finally possible. 😁

thank you for the reply. edge is now 'based upon' chrome that is why the versions match
It's definitely working much better than it used to. Some experts probably said "Hey, let's get this thing working".
It's definitely better than it was. No question about it. This may be my last post in this thread.
Have a good day.
It's still, what I would call, OK.
Sometimes I test different settings and scenarios, but it is still ok. On 2 devices...
Have a good day.
It's still ok ... still ok
This may be my last post in this thread maybe for a while if not until a new event occurs.
The version identifier of the browser I'm using and testing with ends with .66
It's still ok.
Have a good day.
There is a major issue (well, to me at least) with using Xfinity Stream in the new Edge. In order to be able to take screenshots of playing TV in the new Edge, the Microsoft PlayReady DRM of Windows 10 has to be disabled, in edge://flags, like in the image below. This way, it works like in all the other Chromium-based browers that do not use PlayReady, and screenshots can be made with anything again.
Cheers
In a response to above post,
I don't have that setting disabled, and I can do some screenprints successfully, for what it's worth.
Have a good day.

Are you not using Windows 10 then? Would explain why you would still be able to successfully, since PlayReady is in Windows 10 only.
Windows 10 - using Windows 10 (in response to above post)
Well... That's very interesting, then. But maybe it's possible the channels you tried PrintScreen with weren't using the PlayReady module.
If PlayReady is enabled (default) in my Edge, anything I use to capture playing on the Stream site comes out a black picture. The PrintScreen key, Snip & Sketch, Snipping Tool, GameBar snapshhot (or recording), screen capture in IrfanView -- Only a black picture results. But once Edge is run with PlayReady disabled, it works normally like in Chrome and other browsers.
I'll test it enabled again to be sure, though.
OK... After new testing, the Stream site does not make Edge use the PlayReady module anymore. It must have been resorting to that before they fixed the broken channels. So that's cool, thanks for getting me to confirm this.
No problema ---
glad you're ok - I have other tidbits, but - glad you're ok
Have a good day
glad you're ok
More events to battle in-the-future - no doubt
glad you're ok
