Unable To Send/Receive MMS With Data Turned Off | Android Motorola G7 Power

My Xfinity Mobile Motorola G7 Power will not send/receive MMS or receive Visual Voicemail over WiFi. Data must be turned on.

Previously, I had an LG X Power with XM and experienced no issues.

It wasn't until after I purchased the G7 from Xfinity that a support representative told me that this model of phone required data to be enabled to send/receive MMS. WTH?

SMS works fine on WiFi.

The whole point of continuing to use Xfinity Mobile was to use WiFi, not data.

In this forum, I see that other users have the same problem and some have resolved the issue by resetting Access Point Names (this hasn't worked for me) or by replacing the SIM card in the phone (how do I do this?)

Kindly assist. Thank you.

Hello HiPurple, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Mobile through the Forum. I apologize for the delay in responding.  I am sorry to hear you are having trouble sending MMS over WI-FI.

I can understand the concern of being able to once send and receive MMS over WI-FI on the older devices, and now not being able to. Since Android is constantly updating the operating systems which these devices use, the functionality was removed. Now with all newer devices on the Android 9 operating system, your device is required to use mobile data for sending and receiving MMS messages.

My apologies as there is no workaround to correct or allow the functionality currently. Please feel free to reach out if you should have any further questions.

The only way I have found is to use a text messaging App that will allow wifi use. I and many others are using Verizon Message +. It will work on your Xfinity phone and it will allow you to send MMS over wifi. I know that isn't ideal but that is what it is.

Hey, I really appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately, I am having the same issue with Verizon Messages+, even after restarting, resetting the various WiFi/mobile data options.

Then I discovered a post on Verizon's forum stating that MMS has to be sent over cellular data. Hmmm.

Hmm weird. Well it's still working for me on my Samsung a50 that I got a few months ago. Sorry, I don't have any other answers.

Thanks for the attempts at assisting me. I appreciate it. I tried a few other texting apps that claimed to send MMS over WiFi and had the same results.

I'm pretty sure that this is consistent with all Motorola G+ phones.

Thank you again.
