How do I identify a trusted Xfinity WiFi network? Might there be copycats?

How do I identify a trusted Xfinity WiFi network? Might there be copycats?

I read that I should be cautious of "copycat" networks, but I don't know how to spot them.

Can you tell based on the photo below if that is a legitimate network from Xfinity?
Should there be "lock" symbol by the network name?

I'm new to this. Thanks.

If it’s a xfinity network then I think it should auto connect but I could be wrong

I can't see the photo I uploaded.

It shows

Connect to XFINITY
WiFi here

I'll try to upload the photo again...wifi.jpg

I thought maybe it was a bad thing if it says "unsecured" ?

Also if it’s a xfinity network it should ask for your username and password to use it

If it’s unsecured then their private WiFi should show up unsecured too. But with it unsecured anyone can log into their internet. But if all you want to do is use the connection then it’s not that risky. If it’s not an actual xfinity network then they could see your device on it but can’t see any information just that your connected but you should be fine if not think how many people that use free public hotspots would have to worry.

And if your looking for your own network it should be the one with the strongest signal

Thanks. I was just thinking about this because
(1) I got a work email warning us to be careful of copy-cat networks

(2) I read that 'everyone' should be using VPNs when using public wifi, so I assumed that it was risky, but I don't know HOW TO IDENTIFY when something IS a copy-cat.

I just did an internet search and found this (bleow) so I'm still curious:

A VPN secures your computer’s internet connection to guarantee that all of the data you’re sending and receiving is encrypted and secured from prying eyes. (lifehacker dot com)
