Problems with Samsung Xfinity app and Xi6-t box

We recently purchased a Samsung Q70T TV and the Xfinity app worked fine with it and the Samsung remote control

Comcast then sent us a new cable box for that tv, cable box model Xi6-T, in order to be able to watch 4k shows through Xfinity.

After a lot of wrangling, I managed to get the new box working. I can control Xfinity things like the guide, changing channels, and getting to the home screen just fine. However, the FF and Rew buttons on the Samsung remote do not work correctly.

When I hit the Play/Pause button on the remote, the FF movement (hitting the right side of the pad) opens up the split screen view of the guide. Likewise, hitting Rew/left side of pad opens up the notifications.

This is what happens with the Xfinity app when using the pad in normal viewing mode and if just using Xfinity by itself. With the Samsung remote, after you hit the Play/Pause button the pad is supposed to do FF and Rew instead.

So as it stands now, if we use the new cable box, we have to use two remote controls to watch TV. Before the new box, we only needed the one from Samsung.

I was wondering if there is a way around this or if it's a known issue that is being worked on. Honestly, given how tech-impatient my family is, I think they would prefer not to have access to 4k shows and just be able to use one remote for everything, but I would hate to switch back if there is a solution just around the corner.

Thanks!

That’s the way it’s supposed to work. You were able to use your Samsung remote for the Stream app because it’s part of your tv, the Xi6 (other than being plugged into it) has nothing to do with your tv

Thanks for your response!

I am still confused. The Samsung remote is able to control some of the features on the Xi6-T like pulling up the guide, changing channels, going to the home screen, selecting saved programs to watch and so on, all via the Infinity app on the TV. It's just the fast forward and rewind buttons that aren't doing what they are supposed to.

With the previous box (XiD-C), the Samsung remote worked with everything including the FF/Rew features all via the Xfinity app.

Looking closer, it appears that the Xfinity app for the Xi6 differs in other ways. The older one had on-screen buttons for recording and information (and some other things I can't recall) while this one only has Home, Guide, and Previous Channel.

So I don't doubt your answer, but clearly I'm not quite getting it yet nor am I getting whether this is something that can change in the future.

Your posts are referring to a lot of different things. Your first post refers to the stream app, latest post is accessing the stream app through an XiD, which you can’t do. I think clarification is needed. You keep referring to Xfinity app, what are you referring to?

I am trying to be as complete as possible in all my posts but perhaps there is too much information.

Ultimately I am talking about the Xfinity app on our Samsung smart tv.

We have a Samsung smart TV. With our previous Xfinity cable box (model XiD), we were able to control all the Xfinity features like channel changing and fast forward/rewind using the Samsung remote control and do so via the Xfinity app on the Samsung TV.

In order to get 4k programming through Xfinity we had to upgrade the cable box. They sent us an Xi6-T to replace the XiD. Using the Samsung remote and the Xfinity app on the Samsung TV, we can control some of the Xfinity features on the Xi6 like the guide and channel changing but we cannot Fast Forward and Rewind (my first post goes into detail as to what happens when we try).

We want to be able to control Xfinity -- our cable box -- with the one remote (the Samsung remote) via the Xfinity app on the Samsung TV as it makes everything easier and cleaner.

As of now, if we want to watch TV we have to use the Xfinity remote in order to be able to fast forward/rewind. And then switch back to the Samsung remote for everything else (Netflix, Disney +, etc).

So I am hoping that there is a fix or that at least Xfnitiy is going to add the FF/Rew feature to the remote/app on Samsung smart TVs. It would be very nice if we could just use the one remote control to control everything like was the case before we upgraded to the Xi6.

What happens when you press the play/pause button on your samsung remote? I recently got a samsung smart tv and it took me a few to figure out that hitting the play pause button shows a small navigation popup on screen. From there I can fast forward, rewind etc.
