Xfinity Stream (Error TVAPP-00381)

I'm able to login, browse episodes and recordings on my DVR as well as browse the full channel line-up I'm subscribed to but wether I click a Channel, recording or On Demand I get the following response everytime:

Well that didn’t go as planned...

 

We’re having trouble playing this recording. We checked for this program On Demand but, unfortunately, it is not available. Please try watching another program.

 

(Error TVAPP-00381)

 

I'm using Chrome browser with Windows 8.1 on my laptop.

windows is no longer supporting win 8 and even early versions of windows 10 are losing support next month. you can use your 8.1 license to install win10 for free upgrade. don't know if that will fix it but so much has changed.
