Data usage for Xfinity Beta app usage?

Question:

Does In Home Xfinity Beta App usage count towards total data cap usage?

Comments:
I have been looking at our data usage and have seen the huge thread on over data cap limit.

My question is we have the Xfinity Triple Play Super+ plan I think is what its called. TV, 1gb Internet, and unlimited phone.

The rep really pushed or strongly suggested instead of a bunch of boxes to use the Xfinity Beta app thru Roku devices or the like for our TV viewing.

I am paying for TV service and paying for internet service. Before this cap I could have cared less if the TV viewing thru the Xfinity Beta App was part of the data or not. But now that they are implementing this 1.2TB cap and charging extra for overage or forced into a increased cost upgrade it really really matters. My thought is that would be adjusted off the total usage meter used for measuring towards the cap.

So once again, the question is, does in home Xfinity Beta App usage count towards total data cap usage?

I seriously doubt it should as it can only be used if you have a TV plan meaning you are paying for that service already and thru the same physical network.

It depends. Please see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-stream-beta-app-faqs. The last item on that page says:

Does streaming using the Xfinity Stream app on a Partner Device count against my Internet data usage?

No. The goal of using the app on your Partner Device is to give you more options outside of our rented TV Boxes to access your full TV service within your home. The service delivered through the Xfinity Stream app is not an Internet service, so our data usage plans don't apply.

However, video services that are delivered over the Internet, like TV Everywhere content accessed through the Xfinity Stream app and web portal or content from NBC.com or the NBC and NBC Sports apps, are treated exactly the same way as any other Internet-delivered services, like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon, and are subject to any data usage plans that might apply.

Re: Data usage for Xfinity Beta app usage?

OK that makes perfect sense. I wanted to make sure the use of specifically the Xfinity App did not accrue data usage.

I would fully expect use of other apps and their respected services to accrue data use. Such as just using the Roku does do mean using the Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOMax , Epix, Fox, NBC etc..on that device will not accrue data. It will even on the later apps that are accessing content that may also be on Xfinity Service. No accrue of data usage is specific to the Xfinity TV service use thru Xfinity's own app only ,regardless of the device of origin. That would include the XF1 or whatever the Xfinity device is called.

I had just searched and could not find the linked page.

Thank You

I just wanted to know what I was looking at for data usage on the Xfinity data meter totals.

One thingbin the Q&A facts section in that link

"Does streaming using the Xfinity Stream app on a Partner Device count against my Internet data usage?"

"However, video services that are delivered over the Internet, like TV Everywhere content accessed through the Xfinity Stream app ................................... are subject to any data usage plans that might apply."

What exactly is TVAnywhere?

Looking that up on the net by definition is exactly what the base Xfinity App does. Or is there a difference on thed app on your phone, laptop and table vs a device meant to connect directly tons TV. Difference being portable vs not portable.

If that is true I will be charged data for use on a device that is portable even though its being used on my home network and offered the exact same access as the app on the roku Nvida etc. Ya that's an abuse by them if that is the case. Now if your using it logging into a account based from a different home address sure that makes sense.

This may explain my high use those months as my children were likely streaming xfinuty app live tV from their phones and laptops.

If true that puts Comcast right back to deserving thecrep of a company that tries to find every way to take advantage of its customer base. It is interesting how in markets where customers have a choice in broadband and TV Comcast/Xfinuty looses way more market share than would be expected by %. I hope this is not the case but I would not be surprised if it either.

the beta app/channel has no ability to use 'outside' internet. the Xfinity stream beta app/channel usage does not count toward your CAP (if any).

Re: Data usage for Xfinity Beta app usage?

Great. I am not sure you can say no way as it dies use the internet modem that is used for all traffic. I am sure its extremely unlikely but regardless I am perfectly satisfied that its not considred towards the cap either way.

I appreciate the info. Thanks.
