Verify phone number

I recently signed up again for Xfinity in my name.  .Over a year ago, I had an account under my husband's name and my phone number.  When I try to verify my phone number, it says there is another account listed under that phone number.  Can I close that other account?  I don't want to link them, just completely deactivate the other account.   Thanks.
