ANSWERED: How to stop unwanted calls to your Xfinity Home Phone

Xfinity Voice Spam Blocker controls and settings

Identify and stop unwanted calls with Xfinity Voice Spam Blocker, so you only talk to the people who matter. Control is put into your hands as you choose which types of calls you want to block and which to send to voicemail, helping put an end to the nuisance calls in your life.

Spam Blocker now includes a Spam call filtering tool utilizing an Audio CAPTCHA gateway. This gateway prompts inbound callers identified as a Low Spam Risk with a two-digit code that they must enter on a touchtone phone before their call is allowed to connect to the recipient.

Spam Blocker’s default settings will treat suspected spam calls in the following manner:

  • High Spam Risk — Calls will be blocked.
    • Blocked calls won't be ability to leave a voicemail.
  • Medium Spam Risk — Calls will be sent to voicemail.
    • Calls sent to voicemail won't ring.
  • Low Spam Risk — Calls will be filtered by an Audio CAPTCHA gateway.
    • Calls that pass CAPTCHA will ring and a risk label will be displayed con caller-ID.
    • Calls that fail CAPTCHA won’t ring and will be redirected to voicemail.

You can manage these settings at any time. Regardless of risk level, all calls will appear in call history with risk labels.

Note: Calls that would be sent to voicemail will be allowed for customers who don’t have voicemail on their account.

Please note that this feature is separate from Anonymous Call Rejection, which blocks calls from callers who have their Caller ID information suppressed. (Learn more about using anonymous call rejection with Xfinity Voice).

Call Screening guidelines

  1. The following numbers cannot be added to your Call Screening list:
    • Your Xfinity Voice/home telephone number.
    • Telephone numbers beginning with area codes 900, 500, 700, or 976.
    • Telephone numbers with extension 555.
    • 911 telephone numbers.
    • 411 telephone numbers.
  2. Long distance numbers may be added to your list. Enter the 10-digit number to block the number (area code plus seven-digit number).
    • Do not enter a 1 at the beginning of the number.
  3. Call Screening cannot be turned on unless there is at least one number on your Call Screening list.
  4. Call Screening does not rely on Caller ID to operate.
    • Inbound callers who have blocked their Caller ID will still be blocked.
  5. The Call Screening feature takes priority over other features such as Anonymous Call Rejection and Call Forwarding.
    • For example:
      • If you have Anonymous Call Rejection activated, a caller from a number on your Call Screening list will receive a message stating you are not available instead of a message requesting that the Caller ID information be unblocked.
      • If you have Call Forwarding activated, a caller from a number on your Call Screening list will receive a message stating you are not available and the call will not be forwarded.

Use the Anonymous Call Rejection feature with Xfinity Voice

Anonymous Call Rejection is a feature designed to cut down on unwanted calls by automatically rejecting calls from numbers with Caller ID blocked. This includes all calls where the calling party has set their name to "Anonymous," "Private," "Unavailable" or "Null."

Callers who block the display of their name and number will hear an automated recording saying you're not accepting calls with Caller ID blocked. The message instructs them to unblock their Caller ID and dial you again. This feature is included at no additional cost with our Xfinity Voice Unlimited, Unlimited Select, and Local With More calling plans.

This feature is enabled by default for all new and existing Xfinity Voice users with a qualifying call plan.

Anonymous Call Rejection is not guaranteed to detect or protect against all unwanted calls, and while legitimate calls ordinarily include Caller ID information, there is a risk that wanted calls lacking Caller ID information may inadvertently be blocked.

You may opt out of this feature by following the instructions provided further below.

Use Anonymous Call Rejection

From your home phone

Deactivate Anonymous Call Rejection
  1. Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *87 and listen for a confirmation tone indicating the feature has been canceled.

Re-activate Anonymous Call Rejection
  1. Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *77 and listen for a confirmation tone indicating the feature has been activated.

Online

  1. Sign in to Xfinity Voice Call Blocking Settings using your Xfinity ID and password.
  2. In the Anonymous Calls Rejection (ACR) section, select the Block all anonymous calls box.

Call Blocking screen with Block all anonymous calls box selected.

We’ve also made display updates to this feature on the Xfinity Voice website.

  • All calls will display as Blocked, instead of Missed.
  • The Caller ID name will display as Anonymous, instead of Private, Unavailable, or Null.

Caller ID displayed as Anonymous at the bottom of the list.

Connect mobile app Call Log screen with Anonymous and Blocked statuses.

Notes:

  • Anonymous Call Rejection is not included with the Xfinity Voice Unlimited Saver plan and basic additional lines.
  • If you’ve enabled both the Anonymous Call Rejection and Selective Call Forwarding features, anonymous calls will be rejected first rather than forwarded.

FAQs

I've enabled and verified Nomorobo on my phone. What do I do now?

Continue to use your phone like normal. All you'll need to do is to wait for the second ring to answer the phone for incoming calls, as Nomorobo needs the first ring to detect robocallers. If you only hear one ring and then it stops, you know a robocaller was just blocked. If the phone continues ringing, you can answer it.

Will this block my doctor's office, prescription reminders, school closings, weather advisories, etc.?

No. The only numbers that are blocked are reported, illegal robocallers.

A robocaller still called me. What happened?

Occasionally, a robocaller or telemarketer will slip through, as Nomorobo must constantly adapts to their changes in tactics. If you do get a robocall, please report it here.

Does Nomorobo work with Unlimited Saver and Local With More customers?

No. At this time, Nomorobo isn’t compatible with Xfinity Voice Unlimited Saver or Local With More call plans.

What about political and charity calls?

Nomorobo does block political robocalls. You can enable or disable this feature by clicking Edit next to your number when signed into your account on the Nomorobo website. Nomorobo doesn’t block charity calls.
