ANSWERED: How to view and change your Xfinity Wifi network name and password?

Sometimes it can be hard to remember your WiFi network name (aka SSID) and password, so we made it easy to see and change them from a few places.

Before you begin, remember that:

  • These instructions are specifically for rented Xfinity Gateways only.
  • Xfinity Gateways broadcast two or three wireless signals/bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) depending on the model.
  • After changing your network name and/or password, you’ll need to reconnect all your WiFi devices to your network. This can take a few minutes.

Here’s how you can view or change your network name and password:

Xfinity app

The Xfinity app puts you in the driver’s seat, letting you personalize and control your WiFi experience. The quickest way to view and/or change your WiFi network name and password is to use the WiFi Details feature in the Xfinity app.

You can click here to open the Xfinity app if you’re on a mobile device.

In the Xfinity app:

  1. Select the WiFi tab, then WiFi details.
  2. Select Edit WiFi settings at the bottom.
  3. On this screen, you can view or change your WiFi name or WiFi password.
  4. Click Save after making any changes.

X1 TV Box (view only — no login required)

If you’re using an Xfinity Voice Remote, press the microphone button and simply say “What’s my WiFi name?” or “What’s my WiFi password?” to view the details. If not:

  1. Press the xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Press the right arrow to get to the gear icon.
  3. Press the down arrow and choose Help.
  4. Press the right arrow, choosing the WiFi tile under the Tools section.
  5. The WiFi password(s) and network name(s) will show up on the screen.

Xfinity Gateway Admin Tool

Once WiFi Intelligence is enabled on an Xfinity Gateway, you can no longer manage the WiFi Network Name/Password in the Admin Tool. Customers with an XB2 or XB3 device will continue to have access to the Admin Tool to manage their WiFi settings. For instructions, see Change Your WiFi Network Name and Password with the Admin Tool.

Note: If you have WiFi Boost Pods or WiFi Intelligence is enabled you'll need to use the Xfinity app.

If you're unsure if WiFi Intelligence is enabled, you can check in the Xfinity app by going to WiFi, choosing View WiFi equipment, selecting Advanced Settings, and looking for the option “2.4 & 5 GHz.”

If the option is not there, then WiFi Intelligence has been enabled.

Default WiFi information (view only)

Your Xfinity Gateway comes with a default WiFi network name and password. Most Xfinity Gateways require the default WiFi name and password to be changed during installation. If your default WiFi name and password were not changed during your installation or if you have restored factory settings on your gateway, you can find the default WiFi information on the side or bottom of your gateway:

A Gateway's info sticker. It shows the SSID and password.

If you’ve never changed your WiFi network name and password, we strongly recommend that you change them to improve the security of your home network.
