ANSWERED: How to change Xfinity Wifi password

In order to keep your Wifi network secure you may need to change your Xfinity Wifi password. Here are a couple of different ways to get that completed. 




View Your WiFi Information for Your Xfinity Wireless Gateway

Your Xfinity Wireless Gateway comes with a default WiFi network name (also known as SSID) and password. If you have never personalized your WiFi network name and password, you can retrieve your default WiFi information on the side or bottom panel of your wireless gateway:

  • Select Internet







  • Click WiFi credentials.








  • Select Edit to chane your WiFi name or password. 








  • Enter your new WiFi name or password and select Save








  • Reconnect your wireless device to your WiFi network using your new network name and password








**Note**: This online tool supports all current Xfinity Wireless Gateway models.



View and Change Your WiFi Information in the Xfinity My Account App

The Xfinity My Account app is a convenient tool that is used to manage users, billing and general settings

  • Log into the Xfinity My Account app and tap the Internet icon. For Android devices, tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, then tap Internet.











  • Tap the Wireless Gateway











  • Select Change WiFi Settings











View and Change Your WiFi Information Using Your Wireless Gateway's Admin Tool Online

  1. Choose a laptop or WiFi device that is currently connected to your network. If none of your devices are connected, use an Ethernet cable and connect a computer or laptop directly to your wireless gateway.
  2. Open a web browser and go to the Admin Tool ( - this is the wireless gateway's administration site. The default settings are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: password (case-sensitive)
  3. Click LOGIN.
    • Note: If you changed your Admin Tool password previously, you will need to use your new login information. If you don't remember your Admin Tool password, you will need to factory reset your wireless gateway. Instructions on how to do this can be found by reviewing the reset information for routers and gateways.

  4. On the left navigation menu, select Gateway, then Connection and then Wi-Fi.

  5. Under Private Wi-Fi Network, you'll see the Name (SSID) of your WiFi network. You may want to write down this information.
    • Depending on your wireless gateway model, click EDIT at the right. If two network names display, click EDIT for both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands to view the settings for each.

  6. Check the box next to Show Network Password. The Network Password (Network Key) will be displayed above. You may want to write down this information.
    • On this page, you can also edit your WiFi network information, including changing your WiFi network name or password. If you make any changes, remember to click SAVE SETTINGS.

  7. Now that you have your WiFi network name and password, you can connect your WiFi devices to your network.
  8. If you have changed any information, use the new information to reconnect all your WiFi devices to your network.




View and Change Your WiFi Information with Xfinity xFi

  1. Login at or via the Xfinity xFi app (Download Apple / Android). Your WiFi name and password are displayed at the top of the Overview section.
    • Note: To access Xfinity xFi, you must be an Xfinity Internet customer with an xFi Gateway. For additional information, please see our Xfinity xFi Overview.
  2. Select Edit WiFi to change your WiFi name and/or password.

  3. Select Apply Changes after making any updates.

Tip: Share your network information via text message to give guests WiFi access while in your home.








View Your WiFi Information on X1

To view your wireless information via the X1 TV Box, you can press the Microphone button on your X1 Voice Remote and say "What's my WiFi password?".

You can also navigate to the Xfinity xFi app using your X1 remote:

  1. Press the xfinity button on your remote control and select the Apps icon.
  2. Scroll down to the XFINITY row and then select the Xfinity xFi app.

Tip: You can navigate to the People and Devices sections to view all the connected devices in your home and pause WiFi access for a specific device or group of devices.

If you do not have access to xFi, you can:

  1. Press the xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Scroll to the right in the menu provided and select the gear icon.
  3. Scroll down in the menu on the next screen and select Help.
  4. Scroll to the right and select the WiFi tile located under the Troubleshooting section.
  5. Your WiFi network name(s) and password will be displayed.



Find Your WiFi Information on an Approved Modem and/or Router

If you don't have an Xfinity Wireless Gateway but use an approved modem and/or router with your Xfinity Internet service, you can retrieve your WiFi network name and password by consulting your equipment manufacturer's user manual. Visit MyDeviceInfo and click on the link specific to your equipment to see more product/technical support information.
