Tech said I can plug phone line from back of XB6 to wall jack to get dial tone

Can I plug the phone line from the back of the XB6 modem to the wall jack? The tech said if I did that I would be able to plug my phones into the other wall jacks (like the old way of attaching your phones).

Currently we have only one phone plugged into the back of the XB6 modem. We can't use phones downstairs.

That is true but the wiring from the jacks outward need to be connected. There’s either something wrong with your house wiring (likely) or the jacks. You can either try to track down where the phone lines meet and see if they’re connected, hire an electrician to fix or have a tech out.

Yes. Make sure your home phone wiring is disconnected from your previous provider, and then connect a telephone base cord from the Tel1 jack on the Comcast gateway to any phone jack in your home.
