Phone wiring

Our phone jack is not near our modem, but it is in the same room. Can I still use Xfinity Voice?

Yes. You can:

  • Plug a corded phone directly into the Tel 1 jack on the gateway or eMTA, or
  • Plug a wireless phone base unit directly into the Tel 1 jack on the gateway or eMTA and use cordless phones anywhere in your home, or
  • Connect a base cord between the Tel 1 jack on the gateway or eMTA and the nearest phone jack to energize your home's other phone outlets. If you are switching from another provider, be sure their connection to your home wiring is disconnected first!

Base wire fm modem/Tel 1 to wall jack, OK.  Other house phones OK voice and ring in and out.  But . . .

Bell touchtone deskset (see pic), into modem/Tel2, rings on incoming and can complete outgoing calls, but when phone rings and receiver is lifted, incoming call is disconnected regardless how many rings have elapsed.
