how do I remove 2 step verification from my email account ?

On the Inbox page, click on the "hamburger" icon in the upper left corner of the page, then on "My account".  It might prompt you to sign in again.  On the landing page click on "Users" at the top, and in the section "Xfinity ID & Password" you will see the option to turn it on or off.
