Unrequested email read receipt

For the last 3-4 months now, when I send out an email to a dozen friends, I will get a read receipt for 3 or 4 of them, but not all of them. I did NOT set the option to get a read receipt for ANY of them. Why is this happening, and can this obvious malfunction be fixed?

This email system is the most frustrasting thing I have ever dealt with. I am tempted to drop it and just use my Hotmail account. It is much faster, never hickups, and I can ALWAYS resolve any issues very easily.

Comcast's Open-Xchange "Appsuite" webmail ("...connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/...") has a bug where, if you compose an email, save it as a draft, and then edit and send that draft, webmail will include a read receipt request even if you have that preference turned off. See https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Email-Web-Browsing/Random-read-receipt-requests-when-sending-email-via-Comcast/m-p/3305909/highlight/true#M215605.

That would be wise IMHO. There just isn't any compelling reason to use Comcast's webmail, and several reasons to avoid it. But if you do that you might want to forward your primary Comcast email to your Hotmail account. Once in a long while they send out stuff that's actually important.
