Prevent Comcast From Becoming Default Mailto
I want GMail to be my default mailto: protocol provider, and I have created this preference in GMail. Nevertheless, Comcast keeps on taking back the mailto: protocol for itself, so that when I click on a mailto: link, my Comcast webmail opens instead of GMail.
How can I prevent Comcast from become the default mailto: protocol provider?

If I go to chrome://settings/handlers and delete "connect.xfinity.com", and then visit connect.xfinity.com Settings / Mail / Behavior / "Ask for mailto link registration" and click "Register now", an Allow or Block window appears in Chrome. If I select Block, "connect.xfinity.com" appears in the Handlers list, but as a Blocked handler. That allows "mail.google.com" to be the default mailto handler in Chrome.
Other browsers may need to be configured to use "mail.google.com" as their mailto handler.

Mail program: GMail
Browser: Chrome
In Chrome (77) I go to Settings > Advanced > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Handlers ... even though I set mail.google.com to be the default, Xfinity inserted itself in the #1 place, before Google

Your "mail program" is a web page. I have a Gmail account and I looked all over the settings in the web page and there is no way to set gmail as the default account from there. And setting it Chrome won't do it, either. In order to have your gmail account as the default mailto: account you would need a desktop email client [program] like Thunderbird or Outlook. While Comcast's webmail is also a web page, Appsuite can be configured as the default mailto: handler, which you apparently at some point assigned from connect.xfinity.com.
In order to do what you want you'll need to download and install an email client. I personally use Thunderbird. You can use any free email client you want, however. Once you have that installed and your gmail account set up you can go into your Xfinity Connect settings [connect.xfinity.com --> gear icon --> Mail --> Behavior and then UNcheck Ask for mailto link registration. Then back to your email client and check the settings for making your gmail account the default mailto: program.
