Outlook only working intermittently

For about a week I have been struggling to download my @comcast.net emails via Outlook / MS Office 365.  I have tried switching from a POP to an IMAP configuration.  I have uninstalled / reinstalled Outlook / MS Office 365.  I have tried several combinations of recommended port and encryption settings.  I have added Outlook to my trusted sites in AVG antivirus and Malwarebytes.  I have turned AVG and Malwarebytes off.

Ultimately I continue to have the same problem.  I can successfully download my emails about 10% of the time.  The rest of the time I get the "0x800CCC1A Your server does not support the connection encryption type ..." error.

My android phone has a generic email app with the same port settings and it works.  If I log onto the xfinity server I can see my emails just fine.  Any thoughts?

I have been having problems with my Outlook app, as well.

One thing I could point out that may solve the issue- Try installing your Microsoft Office 365 updates.

In Outlook:

-Click on File.

-Click on Office Account.

-Go to Office Updates and click on Update Options.

-From the dropdown menu, Click on Update now.

After it downlaods and updates your software, you should be good to go.

I think I have solved the problem for now.  Turning off AVG wasn't enough; their "Email shield" appears to have been the culprit.  Disabled "Email shield" and now my emails download again.  Time to ditch AVG 😠
