Outgoing Email using STMP is failing

My security cameras use comcast SMTP outgoing to email me when motion is detected.  Recently (past week or two) it stopped working.  I know for sure it was working on 9/27 as that was the last email I got from it.

Settings:

  • Comcast SMTP server name: smtp.comcast.net (also used the IP directly - 96.114.157.81)
  • Comcast SMTP username: Comcast email address
  • Comcast SMTP password: Comcast password
  • Comcast SMTP port: 25, 465 or 587 ... all failed

I have rebooted camera, router etc and no luck.

Known issue?

Thanks

Darren

Re: Outgoing Email using STMP is failing

A bit more information. I am aware of the email that came out saying there needs to be a change. From the Comcast website (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/update-your-xfinity-email-settings?rid=15738813&mid=2019091...):

"If you use a third-party email application, you’ll need to configure your outgoing mail server port to 465 or 587, and update the encryption settings of your outgoing mail server from non-encrypted to encrypted settings. If you don't adjust your email settings, you'll still receive emails, but not be able to send emails after the non-encrypted email settings are blocked."

I might have an issue - I don't have the option to do SSL ... at least there is no check box. However, there is a "My server requires authentication" ... I have to use my login \ pwd there. Shouldn't that be enough?

Thanks

You can also use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS

Re: Outgoing Email using STMP is failing

I have the same issue, same timeframe. I have a Sharx SCNC2607 that's been protecting my home for many years. No emails for the past couple of weeks. I checked the settings (see below) and noticed that SSL wasn't checked, so I did so. No luck. What to do? Not happy that I am not getting notifications if an unannounced "visitor" shows up at my front door.

SMTP server name:
SMTP server port:
Secure SSL connection:  Yes  No
Authentication:  Yes  No

Edit: huh, I switched to port 465 and it started working again!
