MAC Catalina OS Mail
I recently ran across some issues with my e-mail and deleted and re-added my mail account on my Mac and it resolved. (It had stopped sending e-mails but that works now.) But now I'm seeing that the account is marked as a POP account instead of IMAP. I've deleted the account again and re-added it but it still marks it as POP. I thought we were supposed to try to use IMAP?
About a month ago I updated my MAC OS to Catalina. I see a lot of directions and hints for the older OS but nothing new for Catalina. It seems like it tries to automatically set the server type. I've typed in the incoming server as imap.comcast.net but it still says the account is POP. Are there updated directions for Catalina? Or does it matter if it's a POP account? Thank you

The correct settings for IMAP in Mac Mail are found here---------------
https://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email/?
I have Catalina on my iMac using Mac Mail. My accounts are all using IMAP. When you let Mail auto-configure the account it should set it up using IMAP, since Comcast accounts are IMAP compliant by default.

It worked after the 3rd time I deleted and added my account. No other changes were made. At least it's working now.

I just had this issue as well. The auto-configure keeps adding the account as POP. I don't know if it was because it was coincidentally my 3rd try, but I finally got it to work. Here's what I did differently:
After entering my email and password, it comes up with the option to add mail and notes. The first couple of times I de-selected notes because I don't want those synced. This always resulted in a POP mail account. When I left notes selected, it came up as IMAP. I then de-selected notes after the account was created. Perhaps the default for a mail only account is POP and selecting Notes forced it into IMAP? Either that, or it was just dumb luck on the third try. Someone else could give this a shot and see if it holds true.

Interesting... I remember clicking Notes at one point so maybe that made the difference as well. All fine ever since then. Thanks!

Selecting Mail+Notes is definitely the trick to get Comcast to be added as IMAP instead of POP. Then Notes can be de-selected at any time. Thanks for posting that workaround.
P.S. This works in MacOS 10.14 Mojave as well.

Thank you everyone! It also worked the third time I deleted and readded my comcast. I also had to check, uncheck and recheck the notes and mail boxes. I'm finally set up as imap and it is syncing with my iphone. Cheers.

My issue is a bit diffeent. Email is fine but when I try to send an invite from calendar, it defaults to noreply@email.apple.com (do not have icloud mail enabled). Same thing for replies. Must have changed something in the setup but not sure what
