Emails being deleted

I received a message that our inbox had reached a maximum and a request to delete emails. I deleted hundreds from March, April, and May of 2019, but emails from 2020 have also disappeared. I did not delete those. Emails are now coming in, but where are the emails from December 2019 and January 2020?
