Choosing an Email Name

How do I make a new email address for family member? It only allows me to invite someone and chose their first and last name which results in "bob_smith@comcast.net"... Is there a way to chose my email address myself, like bsmith@comcast.net .. Trying to contact customer service is a joke and just keep looping me around and not allowing me to speak to a rep for this. I want to chose my email name and not be forced into choosing a minimum of a 2 letter first name and/of 2 letter second name..resulting in a XX_XX@comcast.net email address. Please help someone!

The "Username" is the Id that will constitute that part of the email address to the left of the @ symbol.  The "user's name" at the top of the page will be the name of the profile in the account.  I suppose they could have made that a bit more clear.

That is the thing, it doesn't let me chose the username for the email, that is what I am looking for. The only option that I can find to make a new email is basically sending that person an invite via a text or another email and you have to chose a first and last name. Based on that, it will make the email off of that.. for instance if you are invited bob smith, once you put his name in and send the invite, it will auto make the account to bob_smith@comcast.net.. It will not allow me to make bsmith@comcast.net, because you have to have at least 2 letters for first and last name and you would still be stuck with an underscore. Why does it not have an option to chose and see whatever I want if it is available. Is there anywhere you can go to simply make a new email and chose whatever you want it to say (within reason) @comcast.net that is the question. Thanks again for any help y'all.

OK I think I know what is going on.  Are you trying to create the secondary account as either a Manager or Member?  Those require that you use the invitation process, and they don't allow for the creation of the user ID on that page.  Try checking "Viewer" instead and you will see a different page that lets you create the email ID separately.

Yep, that was exactly it. I was trying to give the wife an account so just assumed it should be a manager or member which pigeon holed me with the default setup and wouldn’t let me chose. Thanks so much, that was driving me crazy.

Good.  Just keep in mind that "Viewer" has the least account permissions of the three, and she won't be able to do stuff like looking at or paying the bill, creating other accounts and so on.  However, at any point you like you can change the level back up to a Member or Manager once it's been created.  But you have to do it since I gather you are the Primary account holder.

Comcast explains the reasoning, such as it is, for their confusing "invite" process in https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Email-Web-Browsing/Adding-A-Secondary-Email/m-p/3339130#M218513. There's a caution in that post about promoting a Viewer to a Member or Manager.
