Can't send emails
Hi - I am receiving emails but cannot send them.
I am getting an error message that says "Cannot connect to the outgoing mail server."
When I hit the repair button, it says "the connection to the outgoing server smtp.comcast.net failed.
Can someone help?

It was odd, until the port was changed the Xfinity Connect app also would not send emails either.

I see a lot of views and now a bunch more replies having the same issue, yet after going thru all the restart your modem, clear your cache, unplug your modem, and 15 minutes on the phone with a Comcast tech only to be told it is my email program?????????????
Interesting how I was able to send an email at 12:34 this morning but at 9:00 am I was not and nothing was changed in my email program settings. But no, it isn't a Comcast issue????????

Been working with comptuers, modems, etc, for 35 years, yes, I know it wasn't the modem. But since that is the 1st thing tech asks you to do, I go thru all the steps myself because the last thing I want to do is waste my time (as I did again) calling tech support.
The error message changed again when I tested a send before implementing your advice in changing the server to 465 but before I had a chance to copy and paste it, the test email along with the previous tests all went thru, thus I still believe it was a Comcast issue since I did not change anything.
I appreciate your time and follow up and I am saving this thread with your information about changing to server port 465 should I ever have issues in the future. It would appear, that Comcast might actually monitor this forum since the problem was ultimately resolved after more posts began showing up with the same problem, so Kudos to them in that regards and Kudos to you for taking the time to respond.

Had the exact same issue this morning - SENDING EMAIL just QUIT working !! (thanks COMCAST!)
Here's how I fixed it (Outlook 10)
- FILE
- Manage Profiles
- EMAIL Accounts
- Double click on my EMAIL Account shown
- MORE Settings
- ADVANCED
- Change "Use the following type if encrypted connection" to AUTO
THAT suddenly worked ... No idea WTH Comcast did today or overnight that affected this. But NONE of their "HOW TO" setup documents talk about this. They say to set to "SSL" ... which no longer works for some reason.

2nd Thursday in a row now that I cannot send emails?
I did not make any changes to settings. The problem resolved itself by about 2 or 3 pm last Thursday so I will simply wait and 'hope' someone is reading this at Email Tech Support and look into this same recurring issue. Why on Thursdays??

Thanks for the suggestion but that option does not exist for my old email program Eudora. I also tried the suggested solution by CCAndrew from last Thursday's edition of the Email sending issue and that did not resolve my sending issue.
I submit that this was again something caused by Comcast email and no amount of switching or changing my settings will resolve the problem they have created. I will simply not be sending any emails until it is resolved - hopefully soon!

OK, this seems to have resolved it. Thank You.
However, I recalled this same problem several times in the past once I saw the page you referred me to. Is there some reason that this issue keep reoccuring on a periodic basis, especially when the email user (me) has not changed any settings within his or her email program?

I'm going to leave this here as something to try. If it doesn't work, we'll get our CSA group to reach out. Essentially, you need to tell Eudora to trust the cert.
We did send notices to parties we saw not using TLS to send email through the platform. There's also a thread about those notices on these forums.

I was on with comcast for hours (Outlook 2016). I was told I had to switch from POP3 to IMAP, which of course didn't work. I tried "Auto" just for kicks and it was the solution for both my IMAP and wife's POP3 accounts (separate machines).
I'm trying to find out when the switch becomes mandatory because i'll switch back to POP3 if not mandatory.
I wish I would have saw this post before my bad day started.
