Voltage on my coax

There is AC voltage on my coax cable. I live in a condominium complex and my upstairs neighbors are experiencing arcing and damage to their carpet and equipment through their coax cable multiple people have been shocked and I’ve measured voltage on my cable as well. This is a serious issue and I need a tech out here immediately. I have an appointment for Thursday of this coming week but that is not soon enough. It need to happen ASAP!! This can hurt someone or cause a fire and Comcast needs to take this seriously!!!

Re: Voltage on my coax

You are better off calling an electrician, even if a tech comes out they aren’t going to touch anything electrical (#1 and very important, they aren’t qualified).

Re: Voltage on my coax

I am an electrician. I don’t know how their service comes into my complex or where they have splitters or amplifier located and before I go to the management company suggesting how to troubleshoot an electrical issue, I’d like to rule out Comcast as the source of the problem.

Re: Voltage on my coax

FWIW, we've seen these before and it typically turns out to be a bad electrical wiring neutral leg.

Re: Voltage on my coax

That could be it, it could be any number of things. My upstairs neighbor told me they still experienced the arcing when our power went out due to a storm the other week, though. So that’s a little odd. Regardless I still need someone to come out because this is a safety issue that could be on their end

Re: Voltage on my coax

There’s no option going through your menu for a fire hazard. There’s also natural gas lines there are right next to the live coax and improper bonding on the original install. Those aren’t options either

Re: Voltage on my coax

The middle option "I think cable wires outside my home pose a safety risk" applies, but I'm escalating it
